OCC Golf - Aug. 26th

Please Note:

1. Carts will be in the rough.  Please DO NOT drive in the fairway during extreme heat conditions.

2. Water is good for your body. Please stay hydrated during extreme heat conditions.

3. Guest Day is this Friday.  All guest fees are $35 with cart rental & tee reservations are required.

4. Speed Golf is this Saturday at 6:30 am.  Please contact me if you would like to participate.

5. End of Summer Sale - Great deals on equipment & clothing in the golf shop.  Bring in "old clothes" from your closest for an extra % off any purchase.  All items will be donated to a local shelter benefiting those who are in need.

Glow Ball - Cancelled

Due to the rescheduling of the firework & club picnic, the Glow Ball will be canceled this weekend. I will communicate the new date when rescheduled later in the month.

I would also like to encourage any couples who would like to begin to play a casual 9-holes on Friday evening to reserve their name in our selected block of tee times. We will have tee times set from 5:36-6:00 PM every Friday evening for the remainder of the Fall with dining specials featured from Chef Jesse & just a $10 cart fee for the couple. If enough people sign up to play a possible game may brake out.  Contact the golf shop if you would like to participate.

The Labor Day holiday is an emphasis on everything that is great about living in the united States of America.  The weekend is one in which recognizes the values of our country & the many past Americans that have dedicated their blood, sweat & tears to help shape our great nation.  I'm very excited to host the 4th Annual Patriot Golf Weekend with the membership of Oxmoor CC as we will again look to collect funds for the Folds of Honor Foundation.  This Foundation was founded by a fellow PGA Member & retired Air Force pilot, Cpt. Dan Rooney, & provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children & spouses of military service men & women killed or disabled while serving our great nation. The past two seasons we have been recognized as an Outstanding performer & then Top Performer in the state & your support is greatly appreciated.  For more information please visit; www.patriotgolfday.com

Club Championship Notes

I would like to thank all those members who participated in the Club Championship this past weekend. I always think of the quote above as being one of my favorites about the game & the many lessons that you can learn while playing; & nothing brings that more forth than tournament golf.  Regardless of what each of you shot, the solid hits & the poor, it is my hope that each of you learned something more about your game & what you need to do to continue to get better!

This year's Championship provided a lot of excitement on the course with shots flying in from the "field" & red numbers on the leaderboard through two days.  We also have added two new members, Adam Columbia & Kim Willis, into the historical records at Oxmoor CC as Club Champions & witnessed two defending Champions, Alan Donhoff & Chris Mussler, golf their ball over 54 holes successfully maintaining their parking spots at the Club! Also, congratulations to Mr. Ron Haseker for striking the perfect shot on Saturday morning while playing the 16th hole (his 7th) from 186 yards with a 5 iron, making his first Club Championship one that he will remember for the rest of his life!

I would like to thank everyone for participating in this weekend's Club Championship.  We have 15 players in the Open Division, 25 players in the Men's Division & 36 players in the Senior Division; including all of the defending champions of each respected division competing for the Overall Championship & the annual Champions parking spots!  The championship will be contested under USGA Rules for stroke play & each division will play from their respected tee markers throughout the competition.  After the completion of 36 holes on Saturday afternoon, awards will be given to Flight Champions, an Overall Net Champion of each division & the Super Senior Division (65+ years old) medalist & runner-up.  The low 8 scores & any ties will qualify for the final round on Sunday morning for a 54 hole championship total to determine winners.  We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow & best of luck!

To the membership at Oxmoor Country Club,

I would like to extend my most sincere thanks for allowing the Kentucky Golf Association the

opportunity to host the Kentucky Match Play Championship at Oxmoor Country Club. It was a privilege

and an honor to be able to compete on one of the finest golf courses in the state of Kentucky.

You, as the membership, have an excellent professional staff and grounds crew in place. Everyone was

very helpful and polite, and the condition of the golf course was simply fabulous. My congratulations go

out to Richard Schmitt, Josh Snider, and the entire golf staff for putting on a fabulous event. I would

also like to thank the golf course superintendent and his grounds crew for putting such a fantastic

product before us, the players. We simply couldn't have asked for more perfect playing conditions.

The food and beverage staff did not go unnoticed, as well. My compliments to the chef and the entire

food service department for providing such excellent meals during the competition. The wait staff was

also friendly and courteous.

Once again, I thank the membership for sacrificing the golf course to us over the course of four days.

Your dedication to allowing us to use your facility made for a truly wonderful and memorable

experience. After winning my first state event, I know with certainty that Oxmoor Country Club will

always hold a special place in my heart, and I hope that we, as the players, will have the opportunity to

enjoy future events at such a wonderful facility.

I hope everyone had a tremendous PGA Championship experience, either on the grounds or watching on TV, as it will be noted as one of the best PGA Championships' in historical records!  It is always noted at the Masters that the back 9 on Sunday is when the tournament is won & it was awesome seeing that leaderboard & eventual champion, Rory McIlroy, golf at the highest level over the last 9 holes at Valhalla.  Lastly, I would like to thank all the members who volunteered their time for the week serving as hole marshals for #2 (Great for-caddie work by Mrs. Patti Noe in helping Jason Day find his ball!) as well as to our Hole Captain, Dick Goold, for his efforts in coordinating our team & representing Oxmoor CC.

Sunday PGA Game

Thank you for all those who came out and participated in our Sunday PGA game.  It was an exciting finish to an awesome PGA Championship this weekend.  We hope you all got a chance to get out and see some of the live action at Valhalla.  Our winners here at Oxmoor are as follows:

In 1st Place was Tom Ice with a net 66 choosing Phil Mickelson who also shot a 66 for a total of 132, earning him $80 in sweeps

There was a tie for 2nd with a total of 133.  It was between Kevin Aldred shooting a net 67 choosing Phil Mickelson who shot 66, and Matt McCreary shooting a net 67 also choosing Mickelson shooting a 66.  Both players earned $45 in sweeps

In 3rd Place was Doug Small with a net 67 choosing Brandt Snedeker who also shot a 67 for a total of 134, earning him $10 in sweeps.

Our overall low net winner was Tom Ice with a 66 earning $30 in sweeps.  

Our overall low gross winner was Doug Small with a 71 earning $30 in sweeps.
