100 Hole Golf Marathon & Give Local Louisville Day

Today is “Give Local Louisville Day”.  A day dedicated to supporting Local Non Profit Charities here in Louisville.  As many of you know I will be playing 100 holes of golf at Oxmoor Country Club tomorrow to support 2 great local charities….The Food Literacy Project at Oxmoor Farm as well as The Kentucky Golf Foundation.  Click either link to learn more about the charities and what they do here in our community.

Below is the link to support my efforts to raise as much as I can for these two great causes.  You can donate online or you can drop off cash donations to the golf shop through the end of this month.  They will also be taking donations tomorrow night during the “Taste of Oxmoor” dinner.

Dear Members,

I would like to thank everybody for coming out to the Labor Day celebration and our last weekend at the pool.  We had over 350+ people that made it through the gate this past Monday and we hope that everyone had a good time and enjoyed the perfect weather for the pool party!  We are now transitioning to bringing that party indoors and we hope that you continue to think of your Club as the spot to come to hang out with your friends!

UPCOMING EVENTS

1. Friday Night Couples Golf – Play begins at 5:30 PM for the remainder of the month.  Contact the Golf Shop to sign-up and guest are WELCOME!

2. Corporate Golf Outing – Tomorrow morning we are hosting a corporate golf event and the golf course will open at 12:00 PM for regular member play.

3. Doggy Swim – Sunday afternoon we will open up the pool for members to bring their favorite four legged friends for an afternoon swim between the times of 1:00-3:00 PM.

4. 9-Hole League Play – Please note that we will begin play on our final 3 9-hole league nights at 5:30 PM due to the time of sunset.  Please call the Golf Shop before 4:00 PM if you would like to participate.

5. Tuesday, Sept. 13^th – The Turf Maintenance Staff will begin the annual golf course aerification process.  Please note that holes/front 9 or back 9 may be closed daily over the next two weeks to complete the necessary turf maintenance on our fairways, greens and tee boxes.

This year has been one tough year on weed control, which was driven by the heavy rainfalls we experienced earlier in the season.  While we applied the correct amount of pre-emergents, the quantity of rainfall has broken it down earlier than many have expected.  Two very tough weeds, Dallisgrass and Goosegrass, have invaded tees, fairways and rough.  These two weeds are not only hard to eradicate in home lawns, but our options in bentgrass areas are even fewer. We have applied an herbicide that turns all weeds white. You may have noticed this at many other courses in the area.  Once the herbicide is applied it turns the plant white by removing chlorophyll, the green pigment in turf, stopping photosynthesis and in a couple weeks will turn brown and control is complete.     While this is a short lived eyesore it is a necessity for control of these two noxious weeds.

A note of thanks for all the members who came and supported the Greenkeeper's Revenge event this past Sunday.  It was a great turnout and a fun day, until the rains once again came.  We totaled over $5000.00 for course improvements and special note of thanks to our Grounds Chairman, Mike Porter, and Grounds Committee member, Mary Mattingly, for their efforts in helping to organize participants, prizes and schedule of events for the tournament.

 

Upcoming Events:                                                                                                                                                                                                                1. OMGA Labor Day Stoke Play event- make your own foursome and play before 1pm on Labor Day and make sure to inform the golf shop you want to be in the game.  All players will be flighted and scored accordingly.

2. OMGA Chicago 3 Man event- Sunday Sept 25^th Last points event of the OMGA season!! Sign up in the Golf Shop and plan to attend the Pairing Party on Saturday night.  $100/team buy in

3. OLGA Member Member- September 10^th & 11^th- Sign up with another Member in the Golf Shop.

4. OLGA Points Championship- September 18^th

 

Only 3 more Dog/Catfight nights left…make sure to call the golf shop to sign up.  Play will begin at 5:30 PM beginning on Tuesday, September 13^th.

 

Couples Golf- EVERY Friday evening with play beginning at 6:00 PM.  Contact the Golf Shop to signup.

 

There is still 2 ½ weeks left to donate to my 100 Holes of Golf fundraiser benefitting the Food Literacy Project at Oxmoor Farm & the KY Golf Foundation!  We are planning on having a Farmer's Market as well as a Farm to Table Dinner that evening to support the event. Any support you can give is greatly appreciated.
