OCC Golf - May 20

Practice Range Note:

The Greens & Grounds Committee has made the decision to improve the turf conditions on the the practice tee by overseeding the bermuda with rye.  As everyone knows, the practice tee has struggled with the past two winter temperatures & has not been able to recover.  We are going to begin to transition the turf to rye grass so that we can have growth earlier in the season & have the tee available for member use earlier in the golf season.  The practice tee will be closed for the next 3-4 weeks in order to give the seed the opportunity to germinate & we will have a daily water schedule in which the practice mat will be temporarily shut down for watering.  Please note the schedule below & I ask everyone to please stay off the grass as well as not to hit from the turf recently sodded directly in front of the mats.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Members are encouraged to make their own pairings & starting times prior to 2:00 PM that day.  All participants must have at least 1 other OMGA member in their group for competition & all will play for points awarded for par, birdies, eagles & double eagles in both gross/net scores.

The premier event of the golf season is quickly approaching & the field is limited to the first 36 teams who would like to participate.  The Classic will consist of a 45-hole competition with each team playing a 9-hole match against every team in their respective flight for a total of five matches. All matches will consist of a low ball/low total scoring with points awarded for each hole played & an additional 2 points awarded to the winning team of the respected match.  Please contact the Golf Shop if you would like to participate & challenge the Defending Championship Team of Scott Lusk & Johnny Deaton.

Junior Golf Note:

Information for the PGA Junior League has been sent & I would like to encourage all kids between the ages of 8-13 to come out this weekend if interested in participating on the team.  We will have 90 minute practice session both Saturday & Sunday at 3:00 PM so that we can evaluate each junior skill levels as well as play a few holes of golf.  Please contact the Golf Shop if you would like more information.

2015 OLGA Triathlon - May 17th

We would like to thank all the ladies that participated in the OLGA Triathlon today. The women endured some unfortunate scorekeeping and a brief thunderstorm, which delayed play for approximately 25 minutes. Play is broken into 3 formats that are played for 6 holes each. The first 6 holes was 1 best ball, the second 6 was scramble, and the final 6 was a 2 best ball shamble. The team of Ann Edwards, Kay Larmee, and Mary Mattingly scored an unbelievable 76. The round was highlighted by a net 2 on #16.  That's 2 net 1's added together! Kay made a natural birdie, while Mary made a par. Strong play with the shamble format vaulted the team of Rachel McMillen, Kim Willis, and Penny Haseker into second place with an 85. Thank you, again, ladies for playing and we look forward to seeing you at the club. After a rainy round and soggy shootout, Kevin Aldred and Steve Berry have been crowned the Overall Champions in the 2015 Bilyeu Classic. They fought off last year's champions, who came in second this year, in Noe and Washburn. The former champions, who came in third this year, Porter and Thornton also gave the champions a challenge in the shootout.

Bilyeu Classic - 6:00 PM Shotgun Tonight

Gentlemen,

I look forward to seeing everyone this evening for the first round of the Bilyeu Classic.  The format is an Odd/Even Alternate Shot, teams will choose who plays the tee shot on odd # holes & even # holes, and then proceed playing a pure alternate shot until the ball is holed.  Tomorrow morning teams will compete in a net better ball stroke play with their R1 scores added to their R2 scores to determine the flight winners & applicable wildcard teams qualifying for the Championship Shoot-out.  Please note the flights on the attached document as well as this evening's pairings noted below.

1 - OMGA Bilyeu Classic - Friday 6:00 PM Shotgun & Saturday 8:00 AM Shotgun

If you would like to participate in this weekend's upcoming Bilyeu Classic, please contact the Golf Shop with your team.  The event will begin with an Odd/Even Alternate Shot format for 9 holes on Friday evening & then teams will add that to their 18 hole Better Ball Score on Saturday.  All flight winners & eligible wildcard teams will compete in a 3-hole shoot-out immediately following play to determine the Overall Champions.  

2 - OMGA Stableford Point Challenge - Monday, May 25th 

Members will make their own pairing & tee reservation time & must have at least 1 other member participating as well as tee off by 2:00 pm that afternoon.  Points will be awarded for both gross & net scores per hole & members will win sweeps & points for their highest place finish.

3 - Crystal Classic - Thursday-Saturday, June 4th-6th

We currently have 10 spots available for the premeier event of the men's golf calendar.  The Crystal Classic is limited to 36 teams & features a round robin match play with points awarded per hole for low ball & low total.  The entry fee of $550 per team includes all golf, tournament awards, daily tee gifts as well as the Calcutta steak dinner & an excellent menu featured on course during play.  Please contact the Golf Shop for more information.

Women's Golf Notes:

1 - OLGA Triathlon - Sunday 1:00 PM Shotgun

I would like to encourage all the OLGA members to sign up for this fun team challenge that features three different formats played over 18 holes.  Teams will be randomly drawn using the A/B pairing method & begin play on the front nine playing a combination of a Better Ball/Scramble/Total Aggregate to determine the winning team.  Please contact the Golf shop if you would like to play.

2 - Ladies FUNdamental Thursday - 5:30 PM Golf Clinic

Join us for a fun 1-hour free golf clinic this Thursday afternoon in which we are going to cover the possibilities of being better with bunker shots.  We also are going to encourage everyone to play a golf hole that evening in a scramble format for those who would like to experience the golf course.
