OCC Golf - Weekend Notes

Please Note:

1. Ladies Clinic - Thursday, March 26th @ 6:00 PM.  Join the PGA Professional Staff for a free golf instructional clinic that evening held outside/inside weather depending.

2. Demo Day CANCELED - Friday, March 27th.  Due to the weather forecast for Friday with low temperatures & high winds, the demo day will be postponed.  We are currently working with the vendors on a date when all can make an appearance on our practice range.

3.  OMGA Two-Man Shamble - Saturday, March 28th is ON!  We will delay the start time to 10:00 AM & look forward to hosting the first tournament of the 2015 season.  We currently have 35 individuals who are committed to participate & will begin an alternate list at 40 in order to maintain the even number required for team pairings.  Please contact the golf shop to sign up.

Weekend Golf Notes

Please Note:

1. The Golf Course & Practice Range will be closed today.

2. Tomorrow's Icebreaker Scramble has been cancelled due to course conditions.  We will not reschedule the event & allow the normal rites of Spring to occur, giving our Golf Course Superintendent & his staff an opportunity to "rebirth" the golf course over the next few weeks.  We apologize about any inconvenience but encourage everyone who would still like to play to contact the Golf Shop for starting times.

3. All guest tomorrow will pay our Guest Day fee of $35 to include cart rental!

Icebreaker Scramble

Sunday - 9:00 AM Start

Entry Fee - $55 Per Member & $75 Per Guest

Signup your favorite foursome for the opening event of the 2015 golf season! We will have complimentary doughnuts & coffee prior to teeing off as well as a fantastic bbq lunch prepared by our Executive Chef to enjoy during the awards ceremony.  Teams will compete in a four-person scramble in which each must count a tee shot on a par 3 & a par 5; and teams will be awarded for both gross & net scores.  Please contact the Golf Shop by Saturday afternoon prior to 4:00 pm.

Great Shot!

Congratulations to Mr. Sherman Lay for recording his 3rd career ace while playing at Stoneybrook Golf Course in Estero, FL in February!  Sherman hit the perfect shot from 140 yards using a 6 iron into a strong wind on the 17th hole!

Jeff Thomas - Life Celebration

Saturday, March 7th

4:00-7:00 PM 

As many of our members may know, we lost a true gentleman of the game this past weekend when Jeff Thomas passed after a strong fight with cancer.  It is without a doubt that Jeff loved to play the game of golf, had a great pride in his membership at his Club & is someone who affected many of our members with his positive attitude & spirit for life.  His family will hold a celebration of his life this upcoming weekend & I would like to encourage any of our members to come out to pay respect to his family as well as friends.

Great Shot!

I would like to congratulate Mr. Mike Potter for hitting the perfect shot while on a golf trip in southern California.  Mike recorded his 2nd career ace by holing a 141 yard shot using an 8 iron at Encinitas Ranch Golf Course.  Congratulations!

Icebreaker Scramble

Sunday, March 15th @ 9:00 AM

Entry Fee - $55 per player

Sign-up your favorite foursome for the (Hopefully) first tournament of the year.  Members will compete in a scramble format awarding both gross & net scores, skills challenge winners and then conclude the event with an excellent BBQ lunch prepared by our culinary staff.  Each team member will be required to count a par 3 & a par 5 tee shot so there is some team strategy needed while playing.  Please contact the Golf Shop if you would like to sign up & guest are WELCOME!

Greens & Grounds Committee Note:

1. Replace your divots. 

2. Repair your pitch marks on the putting surface.

3. Please play from the respected tee markers set by our grounds staff.  The daily rotation of the tees not only provides a different challenge/perspective of playing a hole but most importantly to allow for turf relief or growth of certain tee positions.  Playing from closed tee's is not permitted.

Congratulations

I would like to congratulate our Senior assistant Golf Professional, Jamie DeKeuster, for accepting the position of Head Golf Professional at French Lick's Resort Valley Learning Center!  I'm very grateful for his efforts the past 2 years in serving the membership, directing the golf staff & assisting with the growth of our Club's golf operations.  This past season has been a very special year for him & his family; elected to the KY PGA Board of Directors, birth of his first child Reagan & now seeing his efforts from hard work, continuing education & passion for the game of golf to be rewarded with his new position.  Please make sure that you stop by the Golf Shop over the next two weeks to wish Jamie well before he sails to the other side of the river!
